Whether you’re looking for wedding photos, engagement photos, proposal photos, or even family photos at The Biltmore in Asheville, there are plenty of great photo spots to choose from. If you’re unfamiliar with the grounds and gardens, you may not know exactly where to take your photos. I’ve had the incredible opportunity to photograph many couples and families there over the years and thought it would be helpful to share my top picks for photo spots at The Biltmore.
Close to the House
Sure, you’re going to grab some photos with the iconic Biltmore in the background, but don’t underestimate getting up close and personal with the house itself. The house’s neutral colors with intricate details makes for a stunning backdrop for your photos.
The South Terrace
The South Terrace is the large open area on the south side of the house. If there’s no tent setup for an event, you’ll definitely want to grab photos here. You can see the side view of the house with an incredible view of the mountains. This spot is especially gorgeous when the sun is setting… there’s a golden glow cast on the house at this time. This area does tend to get busy, so just be aware that there will likely be several others wandering around.
Gardens
While The Biltmore is known for it’s mansion, it’s also known for it’s perfectly tailored gardens. Here are three of my favorite gardens:
- Italian Garden: This is a formal, elegant garden with three pools, grassy panels, and Italian sculptures. There’s actually a pretty rich history of the Italian Garden if you’re a history nerd like me.
- Walled Graden: Features a gorgeous display of plants and flowers that are rotated seasonally… the tulips in the spring and the azaleas in the late spring are always beautiful.
- Rose Garden: Like it’s name suggests, you’ll find gorgeous roses in this garden… it makes for a perfect backdrop for a proposal
The Conservatory
The Conservatory itself is home to thousands of plants and flowers and is any plant or flower lover’s dream. But I LOVE taking photos in front of the Conservatory. You’ll actually see the Conservatory when you’re in the Walled Garden, so it’s rather easy to get photos at both locations.
Things to Know Before You Book a Photo Session at The Biltmore
Before heading to The Biltmore for photos, there are a few extra tips I want to arm you with to give you the most successful time there:
- You have to purchase tickets in advance. Be sure to purchase tickets for the Gardens and the Grounds.
- Give yourself ample time to travel through the gates and park.
- Plan on lots of walking. Consider bringing shoes that are easy to take on and off.
- If you’re hosting your wedding or a bridal session at The Biltmore, there are a ton of other restrictions and guidelines, so be sure to hire a knowledgeable Wedding Planner to guide you through that process.
There are plenty of other beautiful photo spots at The Biltmore, but these are hands-down my favorites.
