Carly & Duke | Old Wide Awake Wedding - Charleston, SC - Kendra Martin Photography

One of my favorite things about weddings are getting to meet my couples “people”!!! I love getting to know the family and friends and so when one of my couple’s friends or family members contacts me to document something for them I get soo excited!!! Carly was a bridesmaid in a wedding a few years ago and that excitement was 100% a squeal of joy when she reached out! Summer of 2022 I met her and Duke in Charleston for their engagement session and then fast forward to May 2023 we were all in Charleston again for their wedding day!!! I have LOVED getting to know these two and I’m so excited to share a little from their wedding day with you all!!

When a couple are planning their wedding day, they aren’t planning for rain… but it can always happen… It can happen, and it did happen on Carly & Duke’s wedding day!

Carly & Duke were married at Old Wide Awake outside of Charleston, South Carolina. As I arrived at Old Wide Awake, I was greeted with a slight drizzle, and a forecast that could possibly give us a break during ceremony time. We were all hopeful for breaks in the rain when we needed it, but also very thankful that the Old Wide Awake had a large porch with beautiful light, just in case! Throughout the afternoon we were making changes to where we were doing the first look and portraits…. and Carly & Duke just rolled with it.

Carly & Duke had planned for Carly to walk down the tree lined driveway at Old Wide Awake where guests would be seated, the two would get married on the steps and everyone would get to view the beautiful home. But the rain had other plans… which meant we ALL rolled with it and y’all while we switched everything up for the ceremony (EVERYONE on the porch while rain came in sideways at times) … it ended up being absolutely perfect and so intimate and an honor to document. I overheard many guests talk about how intimate the ceremony ended up feeling because of where it ended up happening and how special it was. I look back at the image and can remember feeling the same way!!

After the ceremony we headed upstairs for a few family photos on the 2nd floor covered porch (when I say it rained ALL day.. IT RAINED ALLLLLLL DAY). so that porch was a lifesaver to be able to still take portraits and keep guests sheltered!! After a few family photos it was time to celebrate Carly & Duke.. and celebrate they did!!! The band KILLED it and it was a blast getting to document how much fun everyone was having!!
