Wild Dunes Resort Wedding – Janie & Tommy

In May I had the honor of documenting Janie & Tommy’s wedding day at the Wild Dunes Resort on Isle of Palms. When Janie contacted me last summer about documenting their wedding day I was so excited. These two live in Michigan and while they could have discovered me via a google search or somehow on the internet it’s pretty fun how I actually connected with Janie & Tommy!!

In March of 2022 I was in Charleston for a few sessions. One of which was supposed to take place on Folly Beach. Day of we changed the location to Sullivan’s Island. I had my friend Anna Grace with me documenting behind the scenes for my sessions that afternoon and after the session on Sullivan’s we decided to grab a bite to eat at Home Town. As we were walking up there was a family taking a family photo with their phone. I simply asked “do you want me to take it for you” and they said “yes!” My response when someone hands me their phones is usually “I’m not the best with a phone camera”… and I say that because even years of having an iphone it’s still not how I want to take a photo. Everyone’s setting are different and I would rather just take someones photo with my “big” camera. Well to my little comment Anna Grace said something along the lines of “don’t let her fool you, she’s an actual photographer”. In the matter of minutes they find out I photograph weddings, I find out the oldest daughter just got engaged… she got my IG handle and started following me, we said congrats and have fun planning your wedding and we all went our separate ways!!

Jump forward to the end of July and I get an instagram message from Janie asking if I’m available May 6th… and I was!!!! I have never been so thankful for a location change and the opportunity to meet Janie & her family that chilly March evening. Janie & Tommy asked me to travel to Isle of Palms for their wedding day and y’all it was an honor. Their day was the sweetest day ever. It was filled with so much joy, laughter, fun, happy tears and celebration. Janie & Tommy chose to do a first look and the look on Tommy’s face as Janie rounded the corner to him and he saw her for the first time… IT WAS THE BEST!!! We went straight into portraits of these two after their first look and Janie & Tommy couldn’t keep their eyes off one another. The way they love one another is evident in just the way they glance at each other. Before heading to the rooftop for their ceremony we did the wedding party and family photos and y’all their family & friends had me laughing and smiling the whole time!!!

After portraits it was time to get Janie & Tommy married. They chose to get married on the rooftop terrace overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. IT WAS INCREDIBLE!!! Not only was the view breathtaking, but their ceremony was so beautiful. Following their ceremony Janie & Tommy joined their family and friends for the rooftop cocktail hour. About halfway through cocktail hour we were able to sneak them downstairs to view the reception space and then snuck them away for a few minutes on the beach for photos. Y’all I probably squealed the entire time. We had so much fun and the images are some of my favorites from the day. After a little time on the beach we headed straight to the reception to celebrate the two of them. It was a celebration for sure!! From well thought out speeches by their family/friends to dancing the evening away it was a fun one!

Janie & Tommy, thank y’all so much for wanting me to be with you two and your family and friends on Isle of Palms for your wedding day. I am so excited for you two and I can’t wait to hug y’alls necks again!!!!!!
