My Best Tips for Getting Started with Your Wedding Photographer

Choosing the right wedding photographer is one of the most important decisions you’ll make during your wedding planning process. Think about it: this person handles capturing the most important and memorable moments on your wedding day.

So.. it’s crucial to research and ask the right questions to ensure that you hire someone perfect for you. Someone who will capture your vision and style. Someone you get along with. After all, other than your significant other, you’ll spend most of your time with your photographer on your wedding day. Your wedding photographer literally follows you around all day.

So today, I want to explore what you should know before hiring a wedding photographer. I also want to give tips for getting started with your wedding photographer.

What to Look for in a Wedding Photographer

When it comes to choosing a wedding photographer, there are a few things to consider:

  • Style: Every photographer has a unique style, and it’s important to choose a photographer whose style aligns with your vision. Do you want traditional posed shots, or are you looking for a more candid, photojournalistic approach? Look at a photographer’s portfolio to understand their style and ensure that it matches what you are looking for.
  • Experience: Experience is also an important factor to consider when choosing a wedding photographer. Has this person shot many weddings before? Do they have experience shooting at your venue or in your location? A photographer with experience is confident in shooting in your location and will know how to handle any unexpected challenges that may arise.
  • Personality: Remember… your wedding photographer will be with you for most of the day, so it’s important to choose someone whose personality is a good fit for you. Look for a photographer who is easy to work with, friendly, and professional. Bonus points for someone who makes you laugh!
  • Packages and pricing: Different photographers offer different packages and pricing options. Consider your budget and what is most important to you when it comes to your wedding photos. Do you want an heirloom album or just digital images? Do you want engagement photos? Discuss these details with your photographer to ensure you get what you want at a price that works well for you.

Recommendations:Finally, consider getting recommendations from friends, family, or other trusted sources. Word-of-mouth referrals can be an amazing way to find a wedding photographer who is known for delivering beautiful photos and excellent service.

Tips for Getting Started with Your Wedding Photographer

Once you have chosen your wedding photographer, there are a few things you should do to get started:

  • Schedule a consultation: Most photographers offer a consultation, either in person or over the phone, to discuss your wedding plans, details, and vision. This is an AMAZING opportunity to get to know your photographer a little more and ask any questions you may have.
  • Share your wedding details: Your photographer will need to know the details of your wedding, including the date, location, and any specific shots or locations that are important to you. Providing this information in advance will help your photographer plan for the day and ensure they are prepared to capture all of the special and in-between moments.
  • Discuss a shot list: A shot list is a detailed list of the specific shots you want your photographer to capture on your wedding day. This might include traditional posed shots, candid shots of you and your spouse, your wedding party, and any special details or moments important to you. Discussing a shot list in advance will help ensure that your photographer knows exactly what you are looking for.

Review contracts and policies: Most photographers will provide a contract outlining the terms of their services, including any fees or policies. Make sure to review this carefully and ask any questions you may have before signing.

Your wedding photographer will be responsible for capturing some of the most important and memorable moments of your wedding day. Choosing the right photographer is an important decision, so make sure you’re doing your research before you sign on the dotted line. By following these tips for getting started with your wedding photographer, you can be more confident your wedding photos will be everything you have dreamed of and more.If you don’t have a wedding photographer yet and love my style, let’s chat!
